When I heard the sad news last year that JaggerSpun Yarns, a family-run mill in Maine founded in 1898, was closing its doors, I knew I had to act fast or forever lose my chance to try one of the most talked-up weaving yarns out there: Zephyr.
I'm a bit irked to report, now I can't get any more, that it was absolutely worth the hype, an extra-luxurious fifty-fifty blend of silk and merino in a lacy weight that makes for a warm but lightweight fabric. It works perfectly with deflected double weave, a structure in which multiple layers intersect with one another in ways that shift into loops and curves after washing.
This sumptuous wrap is sized for versatility: you can wear it like a scarf or shawl, or use it in the home as a throw blanket or bed runner. I had a hard time photographing the colors, a warm chocolatey brown and a ginger gold, in a way that gets across the combination of luster and depth. (I've obviously kept one for myself!)
- Dimensions: 74" x 22" plus 3" hand-twisted fringe
- Content: 50% merino, 50% tussah silk
-
Care: hand wash cold, hang to dry; low iron if needed
Please note that our weaving studio has a feline occupant. While everything is washed and kept away from Miss Cordelia and her voluminous floof after finishing, if you have severe cat allergies you may consider washing your item again before use.
